PENOFIN® Products
PENOFIN® penetrating oil finishes are formulated to enhance and protect the natural beauty of your deck. Your deck will look newer and last longer with proper care and maintenance. Causes of the Natural Aging Process:
- Sunlight- Ultraviolet radiation breaks down the cellular structure resulting in a "graying effect."
- Moisture- Water settles in the open cellular layers wherever there is a break and promotes rotting.
- Temperature- Freezing and thawing, especially where water has penetrated the inner cellular layers, accelerates the breakdown of wood fibers.
- Microorganisms- Mold and mildew are particularly common trouble makers. Mildew colonization can cause green, black, or gray discoloration.
- Particulate- Particulate matter comes in many forms such as dirt, soot, pollen, and food. These organic particulates provide nutrients for microbial growth and accelerate wood deterioration.
- Extractive Bleeding- Extractives, include tannins and other polyphenolics, colorings oils, resins, and gums. They contribute to such wood properties as color, odor, decay, and flammability. Water-soluble extractives will cause stain discoloration. Nonwater-soluble extractives such as pitch and resin may bleed through the surface and harden there when the solvent evaporates.

PENOFIN® History |
|
Penofin fine oil wood finishes are found on decks, docks, siding, fences, gazebos, log homes, antiques, floors and cabinets
all over the US and Canada. How did the most effective and preferred wood finish come to be developed? It all started on a
bet. 30 years ago, in a tavern in Colorado, a couple of furniture makers bet a chemistry professor that he could not make a
fine wood finish that would be better than the product they had been using for years. Luckily, he accepted the challenge and
created the Penofin formula. The chemist combined the shiny metallic transoxide particles from the automobile industry with
other elements to create a wood finish that reflects the sun's damaging rays, earning a 90%-plus ultraviolet protection
rating. Because this breakthrough retards oxidation in wood, Penofin leads the industry in protecting wood for both
homeowners and professionals.
The creative chemist did not stop there. Next, he introduced Brazilian Rosewood Oil into the formula, allowing Penofin to
penetrate and nourish hardwood far deeper than other stains. He selected Hardwood seeds to produce the oil, which falls
naturally and supports the local Brazilian economy with it's sustainable harvested crop. Then, the chemist introduced the
most effective mildew protection available. Most wood stains arehigh-solid and stay on the wood's surface to create a barrier
against moisture, which prevents the necessary movement of moisture in and out of the wood, causing peeling, cracking,
warping and problems with reapplication. Penofin penetrates deep into the wood to both nourish and protect against the
elements at all levels. All-in-all the chemist did a good days work... and changed wood finishes forever.
